Work experience on the
Eastern and Burbage Moors
Each year we have a limited number of places for work experience students to join our team. Offering estate assistant roles, visitor experience assistant roles, or even a combination of each, young people are given a genuine opportunity to contribute to nature conservation in the Peak District National Park.
Estate Assistant students will help us deliver the habitat management and estate maintenance aspects of our management plan. This includes the day to day maintenance of the car parks, emptying bins and litter picking. This may also include tasks such as woodland management, moorland management and maintaining infrastructure such as gates, pathways and dry-stone walls. All these tasks and more, are vital for the conservation of the site and for retaining good access around the estate.
Visitor Experience Assistant students will help us deliver a visitor experience that exceeds visitor expectations. This includes the day to day maintenance of the car parks, emptying bins and litter picking and improving infrastructure such as repairing footpaths. They may also help in delivering events for a range of ages and design posters and display boards, to help educate and inspire.
Work experience students will be enthusiastic and approachable and be happy to work as part of a team. They will be ready to muck in with the mundane tasks as well as the more interesting elements of the job. They will have a good level of fitness and be happy to work outdoors in all weather and will have a keen interest in nature conservation.
Work experience students will be provided with PPE (personal protective equipment) as required. This may include waterproof coat and trousers. They will need to provide their own sturdy footwear such as walking boots and appropriate clothing for the weather, a packed lunch and a rucksack or small bag for carrying your personal kit.
